The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba, has reassured Ugandans that security agencies are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Speaking on Monday at the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala, during an operations meeting, Byakagaba said the police have bolstered manpower and logistics in preparation for the 2026 elections.
“We have recruited 10,000 probation police constables and 1,000 police constables, procured the necessary vehicles, and covered 90 percent of our logistical needs. Ugandans should be confident that we are ready for a peaceful election,” he said.
The IGP cautioned individuals planning to cause disruption, stressing that security forces will not tolerate violence.
“Those who want to cause chaos should know they will not be given any space. Our mandate is clear to safeguard peace before, during, and after the elections,” he emphasized.
As part of election preparations, the Police have divided the country into nine policing zones, activated Joint Operations Centres, and created three additional regions to improve coordination.
The Force is also working closely with other security agencies to maintain stability throughout the electoral period.
